Human Being

My role: producer, art director, illustrator, and animator

The 3-minute short was individually developed in the last year of studies. The first stage was three months of running online interviews and then editing five hours of recording.

The next development stage included sketching visual symbols and associations with the prepared script. Then I used the digital frame-by-frame animation technique. I aimed to draw the audience's attention to smooth black-and-white visuals that would not take away from the simultaneously heard audio.

The short film is about the ability of human beings to recover from mental suffering. It discusses the idea of emotional pain itself and how rewarding the recovery journey can be.

Meaning of the film

The project talks about the transformative period as an enriching experience, with an emphasis on nonlinear processes.

The audio is edited from interviews with five different people, who complete each other’s thoughts as if they were in a real conversation. The individuals are of different age and gender and they have gone through very different struggles. But what they share is what they’ve learned after going through a difficult time. What they want is to share their stories to help, inspire, and support those who are aiming for recovery.
